The followfood tuna comes from one of the most sustainable fisheries there is: Pole-and-line fishing in the Maldives. Here, tuna are still caught individually with a fishing rod. And this has been the case for 900 years. The ingredients in our products, including the olive oil, come exclusively from organic farming and the tuna is caught off the Maldives using one of the most sustainable and ecological methods in the world: pole and line. The tuna are caught individually with bamboo fishing rods in the traditional way. Instead of electronic aids, flocks of birds show the followfood fishermen where the tuna are. This method has been used in the Maldives for around 900 years, protecting nature, avoiding bycatch and protecting stocks, making it particularly natural and sustainable. Processing takes place directly on site on the small island of Maandhoo, which has qualitative advantages, among other things, as the tuna can be processed freshly caught. In addition, we can guarantee absolute transparency and enable complete traceability of followfood products right back to the source.
